PVC Capt Yogendra Singh Yadav

Youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee | Kargil War Hero | Inspirational Speaker

PVC Capt Yogendra Singh Yadav

Subedar Major and Honorary Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav, PVC, stands as a symbol of unparalleled courage and determination, inspiring generations with his extraordinary story of valor during the Kargil War of 1999. As the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra (PVC), India’s highest military honor, Yadav’s heroism is legendary, marking a turning point in one of the most challenging battles of the conflict—the capture of Tiger Hill.

Born on May 10, 1980, in Aurangabad Ahir, Bulandshahr District, Uttar Pradesh, Yadav grew up in a family deeply connected to the Indian Army. His father, Karan Singh Yadav, was a veteran who served in the Indo-Pakistan wars of 1965 and 1971, inspiring his sons with tales of bravery. From an early age, Yadav aspired to follow in his father’s footsteps, joining the Indian Army at just 16 years and five months of age.

In 1999, at the age of 19, Yadav found himself in the heart of the Kargil War, assigned to the 18 Grenadiers, a regiment renowned for its history of valor. As part of the elite Ghatak Force, Yadav’s mission was to capture Tiger Hill, a strategic peak occupied by Pakistani forces. The assault on Tiger Hill was critical for India’s victory, as the enemy held a commanding view of the Srinagar-Leh highway, essential for India’s supply lines.

The night of July 3-4, 1999, witnessed one of the most intense and grueling battles of the Kargil War. Yadav and his team began a treacherous climb up a 1,000-foot snow-covered cliff, under constant enemy fire. As the lead soldier, Yadav fixed ropes for his team to ascend, but halfway up, the Pakistani forces unleashed a deadly barrage, killing the platoon commander and wounding several others. Despite being hit by three bullets, Yadav refused to retreat. Driven by an unyielding sense of duty, he crawled towards the enemy positions, hurling grenades and engaging in hand-to-hand combat, eventually neutralizing the bunkers that were raining fire on his comrades.

Yadav sustained 15 more bullet injuries, yet he continued to fight, confusing the enemy and providing vital information to his team. His extraordinary bravery and presence of mind paved the way for Indian reinforcements to overwhelm the Pakistani soldiers, leading to the capture of Tiger Hill. The success of this mission marked a decisive moment in the war and showcased the indomitable spirit of India’s armed forces.

For his gallant actions, Yadav was initially declared posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, as it was believed he had succumbed to his injuries. However, it was later discovered that he was alive and recovering in a hospital, making him the youngest living recipient of the PVC.

After his heroic feat, Yadav continued to serve in the Indian Army, eventually rising to the rank of Subedar Major and being conferred the honorary rank of Captain on Independence Day in 2021. He retired from active service on December 31, 2021, but his journey did not end there. Yadav remains an active voice in promoting the values of patriotism, courage, and leadership, participating in numerous corporate events and motivational talks, where his story serves as a beacon of inspiration.

In addition to his public speaking engagements, Yadav also serves on the advisory board of udChalo, a consumer technology platform focused on serving armed forces personnel. His transition from a decorated soldier to a thought leader in the corporate world is a testament to his versatility and commitment to empowering others.

The Hero Of Tiger Hill: Autobiography of a Param Vir | The true story of how the Indian Army won Tiger Hill in Kargil

41ld2vhdn8l. sy445 sx342
I was not afraid of death. All I prayed for now was to not die before winning back Tiger Hill for India. On the night of 3 July 1999, Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav, all of 19 years old, was given a very crucial task along with the Ghatak Platoon of 18 Grenadiers – to capture the impenetrable Tiger Hill. Fresh after capturing Tololing Hill, the Unit was high on josh, but also battered and bruised. Braving the inhospitable terrain, freezing cold weather and facing fierce enemy fire, he was the first in this Ghatak Platoon to reach the top. Even after his body was pierced by multiple bullets and grenade shrapnel, he charged the enemy bunkers and cleared the path for the regiment to capture the mighty peaks of Tiger Hill. He displayed the most conspicuous courage, indomitable gallantry, grit and determination under extreme adverse circumstances during the Kargil War which made him the youngest awardee of the highest Indian military award – the Param Vir Chakra. The Hero of Tiger Hill is the true story of a brave soldier who leaves no stone unturned and fights valiantly for the honour of his country. In his own words, Captain (Hony) Yogendra Singh Yadav gives us an inspiring account of the Kargil War through his transformative journey of fulfilling his most cherished dream of serving the Indian Army.

Tiger Hill Ka Hero : Param Vir Chakra Vijeta Ki Atmakatha | Book in Hindi

Tiger Hill Ka Hero, Kargil : Param Vir Chakra Vijeta Ki Atmakatha (Hindi Translation of The Hero of Tiger Hill, Kargil) The Battle of Tiger Hill, Kargil Autobiography:The Hero of Tiger Hill (Kargil) a true story of Brave Soldier | The true story of Tiger Hill battle full of courage and valor | Inspirational Autobiography of Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav (Paperback, Subedar Major (Hony.
