Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev is an Indian yogi, mystic and poet. He is a Guru in the truest sense who was able to touch the lives of millions of people and bring well-being into them. He was born on 3rd September 1957 in Mysore, Karnataka. After graduating from the University of Mysore, Vasudev went on to build his first business, a poultry farm, in Mysore.
Sadhguru is a Guru of great knowledge and compassion who works valiantly to help numerous people physically, mentally and spiritually to overcome their shortcomings and help them to progress in the right path. Isha Foundation formed by Sadhguru contributes greatly towards the promotion of yoga, spirituality and social welfare. He has something special for everyone to transform every individual life in a most peaceful and beautiful way.
In 1983, he taught his first yoga class, in Mysore. He began travelling across Karnataka and Hyderabad on his motorcycle, conducting his style of yoga classes, known as Sahaja Sthiti Yoga, subsisting on the income from his poultry farm rental and donating the funds received from his students.
In 1992, he founded the Isha Foundation in Coimbatore, which offers yoga programs and unify social and community initiatives to promote social welfare and people’s well beings. The foundation has established “Action for Rural Rejuvenation”, a multi-phased program aimed towards improving the overall health and quality of life of the rural poor. Another significant project of Isha Foundation is Project Green Hands, which aim to plant 114 million trees throughout Tamil Nadu and increase the forest area in the state to 33 percent.
Sadhguru is also a prolific author, who has penned many books to promote yoga, mysticism, well-being, inner peace and more. His most important creations are “Mystic’s Muslings”, “Three truths of well being” and “The inner engineering”. His fundamental principle is ” I do not know” and advocates that the possibility of knowing arises in our lives only when we truly realize that” We do not know”.
Sadhguru also advocates for protecting the environment against climate change, leading many initiatives like Project GreenHands (PGH), Rally for Rivers, Cauvery Calling, and the Journey to Save Soil. In 2017, he received the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, for his contributions to spirituality and humanitarian services. Also in 2017, Sadhguru unveiled the Adiyogi Shiva statue, the world’s largest bust, in Coimbatore, India.
